Strange how the world's population vanished, yet only New Amsterdam's vegetation takes to radical growth.
That's unsurprising. You have a remarkably calming disposition, Gene. I'm assisting Lance with local aid. It's... chaotic here, still. People are reeling.
Ain't so strange as all that, I figure. Given how New Amsterdam is our base of operations, all things queer and sundry must seem rote at this point. These things follow us. If I had to guess, I'd say that's part of it.
( if what jason said is true, then... well. he ain't gonna dwell too much. )
And thank you, I'm sure you're helping just the same and in the same manner. I'm glad you're back, Cas, though I'm sorry for what the circumstances must have been to bring it about.
I guess it's possible, since Henries set up the automated process. Maybe New Amsterdam was his home once upon a time and that's where he felt most comfortable sending us.
I guess when it's happened enough you can be cavalier about it, it ain't hardly a thing, huh?
In the past attacks, other megacities suffered for their lack of access to us. Spreading out could be a better defense.
Death is never pleasant, or without its trauma. I imagine all of us could use some time to heal from it.
By the technical definition of 'talk', yes, we've conversed since reawakening. Have you?
[ the smallest of talks, dodging topics like landmines, but what else is new with dean winchester and things he isn't ready to deal with? it's okay, cas is used to that by now too. ]
I agree. But I think we'd have to be careful about it — remove too many folks from the support of their fellow Displaced and it could cause a whole other passel of issues, even with the end goal of helping out the other cities. More of them than there are of us.
Yeah, he and I chatted some.
( he ain't in the habit of divulgin' other folks' secrets. gene, by nature an' design, is somethin' of a vault. but if anyone else here will understand his concern for dean winchester, it'll no doubt be castiel. )
Can't decide if I ought to slap him upside the head or not. He always like this?
( sometimes, having your communication device literally live in your brain is a terrible idea when your brain to mouth (well, brain to text) filter isn't functioning at its best. )
( hard to say where they stand. he likes castiel, but he don't know him all that well, at least not enough to know if he'd actually answer or if he — wants? needs to? )
[ helping people sure is a great excuse to fuck off to the other side of the world while cas was still in the aerie, then leave the 'are you dead' text on read. nice, dean. ]
Believe me, he's the greater of the two. You, on the other hand, just ain't all that familiar with human emotions which I suppose is more ignorance than idiocy.
He's — ah, Hell.
Trying to figure out where his head is at. He ain't all that great at telling other folks what his needs are directly. If I had to guess, I'd say he's like a damn barn cat. Wants space, but wants the attention too.
I do think some measure of time apart will be wise, but I also don't think that adhering to his wishes when he ain't got the first idea of what they are right now because he ain't even being honest with himself is really gonna help all that much.
Just don't be afraid to reach out to him, is all. Reckon he'll need it more than he knows in the days ahead.
[ most of that, he knows. he's known since he woke up and dean snapped, then went silent. he has a pattern, and cas has made it his personal mission to puzzle this man out, often to little avail but hey, he's trying.
the part where it deviates is what gene suggests about reaching out, ignoring his wishes. the ( ... ) signaling cas typing hovers down there for a while, while he waffles on how to respond. going against dean's wishes isn't a shocking concept to him, but this is something a little more serious, more raw, than cas not waiting for back-up on a hunt. ]
If I push him on this, he will explode. If it goes poorly, he'll distance, and the odds of the conversation being allowed again are slim.
[ the possibility of having dean romantically versus the gamble of losing him in fractions or entirely, isn't a risk castiel's willing to take. there are very, very few risks cas is willing to take at the cost of losing any part of dean. besides, he has a history of making things much worse by trying to make them better, one dean's pointed out in no uncertain terms more than once. ]
The Aerie is the only time Dean's exhibited any interest in something like that.
[ with men. with him, specifically. a one-time instance, probably a fluke. ]
[ this topic has been something utterly off-limits, impossible, until the aerie, and it's a shock to him, still, trying to think of it as anything but. and yet, here's gene, someone who's judgment he trusts sincerely, saying otherwise. it's... a bit of a trip, and takes a moment to adjust to. ]
I suppose, yes, that would make logical sense.
[ and how often does dean make logical sense to him? h a . part of him desperately wants to be hopeful, and all the rest is certain he's setting himself up for hurt, embarrassment, and disappointment. difficult to wrap his head around. ]
We've touched on it some. I won't speak to what was said, that's private between he and I, but you can trust I ain't playing the fool.
( honestly he thinks he could solve their whole issue if he had ten minutes with the both'a them at once in a locked room. preferably if they were tied to a chair an' gagged. )
[ the fact dean allowed discussion of it at all is progress from where they currently stand, and a surprise to cas. huh. ]
No, of course, what he told you in confidence should remain so. [ much as cas might want to know, it's something for dean to tell himself, if he chooses to. ] Thank you, Gene. I'll reflect on this.
[ tied to chairs an' gagged would probably be faster, but hey, they're getting there. ]
